From Sophia De Vera, a lesbian person aspiring to be a filmmaker

Many people believe in the “blood is thicker than water” concept which makes it an advantage for family members to turn to violence and hatred as a solution to somehow “fix” their children.

If you are currently living in a house that is not a home, you still matter. There is a fine line between a family by blood and a family connected by heartstrings. These strings may tangle or stretch but they will never break.

You feel silent but we hear your voice. You feel alone but there is a community waiting for you. You feel broken but you continue to grow and strengthen in the process.

As much as anyone wants to have whole families, one never deserves to tolerate domestic violence, abuse, discrimination and maltreatment just for being true and honest to themselves.

Judgments are only empty words created intentionally to scar your mental health. They have no substance.

The partner, clothes, identity, and pronouns you prefer matter. Gender roles, stereotypes, materialistic things designed by gender, and a one-sided society does not.

Disobedience does not mean disrespect and practicing self-love does not mean being selfish. Most people just confuse social constructs with human needs.
